‘Trath Gola’ deal lands 7 in Police net in Shopian, Rs 5 lakh recovered

In a significant action, Police in Shopian have apprehended seven persons in connection with a suspicious transaction involving a so-called “Trath Gola”, which was allegedly being projected as a rare and valuable meteorite stone.

The apprehended individuals were brought to Police Station Heerpora for questioning and further legal proceedings. They have been identified as  Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Habibullah Bhat resident of Bagi Islam Baramulla, Safeeruddin Mir son of Haneef Mir resident of Rajghat Baramulla, Abdul Rashid Kirmani son of Ghulam Nabi Kirmani resident of Rawalpora Srinagar, Mohammad Shafi Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir resident of Zaloora Sopore, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bakloo son of Ghulam Mohammad Bakloo resident of Pushroo Shangus Anantnag, Arshid Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Subhan Wani resident of Khurri Batpora, Kulgam and Syed Gulzar Ahmad son of Syed Qamar Din resident of Lakdipora Nihama, Police said today.

During the preliminary enquiry, Police recovered Rs.5,00,000/- in cash from the spot along with a box containing a stone, which was allegedly being represented as a rare and valuable “Trath Gola”/meteorite. Moreover, two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-1311 (Alto) and JK03B-5955 (Alto) were also brought to Police Station Heerpora for further examination.

In connection with the incident, a case vide FIR No.95/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Heerpora and further investigation is underway to establish the complete facts and circumstances surrounding the transaction, Police said.

Police have cautioned the general public against falling prey to fraudulent claims involving so-called rare, precious or meteorite stones. Citizens are advised to verify the authenticity and value of such objects through competent authorities before entering into any financial transaction.
