Two JU students chosen to participate in International Art Residency program in Ladakh

Two  students from the Department of Sculpture, Institute of  Music and Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu namely Zarina Parveen and Kundan Gyatso, have been chosen to participate in the International Art Residency program hosted by ‘sa Ladakh’ in the picturesque landscapes of Ladakh Valley.

Taking place from June 1st to 10th, 2024, in Disko Valley Park, Leh, India, this residency offers an unparalleled opportunity for artistic exploration and cultural exchange.

 Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal of IMFA, complimented Zarina Parveen and Kundan Gyatso on their selection, expressing his confidence in their ability to create captivating artworks inspired by the Himalayan environment.

During the residency, Zarina Parveen will focus on the theme of ‘Childhood Memories,’ exploring the concept of burden and struggle in life through her installations.

Meanwhile, Kundan Gyatso will delve into the theme of ‘Traditional Rituals in Local Farming,’ aiming to preserve and promote the customs, traditions, and rituals of Ladakh’s folklore through his sculptural works.

Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik emphasized  that the students will receive the international exposure  during the residency, as they collaborate with contemporary artists from nations such as the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, the USA, and India.

 Zarina Parveen and Kundan Gyatso have honed their skills in visual arts and sculpture under the guidance of mentors Sh. Sukhjeet Singh Kukkal, Jasleen Singh, and Trishla Kumari from the Department of Sculpture, IMFA, University of Jammu
