Two leaders arrested in Katra protest case

Katra: In a significant development, Katra Police today arrested two Mazdoor Union leaders, Bhupinder Singh and Sohan Chand, in connection with ongoing protests against a proposed Rs 250 crore ropeway project near the Vaishno Devi shrine. The arrests were made on Banganga Road outside the Government Higher Secondary School in Katra.The protests, which began earlier this week, have escalated tensions in the region.

On Monday, clashes broke out between the protesters and police, resulting in injuries to a police officer. The demonstrators, mainly comprising local laborers and union members, are opposing the project, citing concerns over displacement and its potential impact on their livelihoods.Authorities have ramped up security in the area to prevent further unrest.
