Union Cabinet expansion: MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal in the list?

Speculations regarding the proposed cabinet expansion or reshuffle have gained momentum. The Member Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal is likely to be included in the union council of ministers.

Namgyal was elected to be the youngest and 8th Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh. He is MP from Ladakh which is India’s largest parliamentary seat geographically.

Before joining politics, from the year 2011 to 2012 he served the All Ladakh Student Association, Jammu, in various capacities and as president.

After coming into politics as a member of BJP, Leh, he served as Private Secretary to the Member of Parliament from Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang.

BJP had fielded Namgyal from Ladakh parliamentary constituency in the 2019 elections, which he won with a comfortable margin.

As per reports, the new ministers in the Narendra Modi government, are likely to be sworn in include Namgyal. Talks about cabinet expansion have been in the spotlight after Modi held a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda. It is pertinent to mention that PM Modi has not expanded his cabinet since the formation of NDA-II in May 2019.

As per reports ministers whose performance was not up to mark might be dropped out and new faces may be seen soon. Leaders who may be a part of the cabinet include Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dinesh Trivedi, Bhupender Yadav, Ashwini Baishnab, Varun Gandhi, former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The second Modi government has 57 ministers (24 Cabinet Ministers, 9 Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 24 Ministers of State), 12 more than it had in its first tenure.

Namgyal came in the spotlight after his speech in the parliament on August 6, 2019 and was praised by many including BJP leadership, colleagues and peers in Parliament.
