On the directions of Minister for Health, Sakeena Itoo, the Health and Medical Education department has made wearing of white aprons with name and designations mandatory for doctors and paramedical staff during their working hours across the healthcare institutions of Jammu and Kashmir.
A circular issued in this regard by the department reads that all the doctors, including those engaged under NHM and Ayush, as well as all paramedical staff working in government healthcare institutions across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir are hereby directed to wear proper white aprons during their working hours and wear legible name plates displaying their full name and designation at all times while on duty.
It adds that all Heads of Institutions, Medical Superintendents, and Chief Medical Officers are directed to ensure strict compliance with the above instructions in their respective institutions.
The decision has been taken in the backdrop that it was observed that doctors and paramedical staff in various government healthcare institutions are not strictly adhering to the prescribed norms regarding the wearing of aprons and displaying of nameplates during duty hours which caused inconvenience to patients in identifying healthcare personnel.
