Will the window of new Jammu and Kashmir open in coming days?

A few political leaders in detention were released days before the all party meeting on Jammu and Kashmir with Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was held on Thursday. Was this the step towards removing “Dil ki duri aur dilli ki doori” as said by the PM in the meeting?

As per reports, stories related to detention were shared by many participants. Getting emotional Sajjad Lone said that do they need to die to prove their faithfulness towards the nation? He remembered the days he had spent in detention and shared the story with PM. Lone told that the Haryana police inspector at those times gave him company when he was lonely in those bitter days of detention.

Lone was detained under the Public Safety Act in August 2019 and was released a year later.

In more than three hour long meet detention of political prisoners was repeatedly talked about. Most of the leaders spoke about the need to release the political detainees and bring back those prisoners who were jailed outside J&K.

Home minister Amit Shah presented a data in which out of 16,700 detainees only 41 are in custody. According to reports, a committee will be formed by J&K L-G Manoj Sinha, who will go through the list of remaining detainees on a case-to-case basis. Release of more political detainees could be seen soon.

PM said the leaders that it is because of democracy only that they have gathered for talks despite recent experiences.
