In a significant achievement, Jammu & Kashmir Police District Kishtwar has successfully solved a tragic blind murder case involving the gruesome deaths of a woman and her two children in Jisher Drabshalla. The case, initially appearing as an accidental fire, was unveiled as a cold-blooded murder through meticulous investigation.
On November 11, 2024, Jammu & Kashmir Police District Kishtwar received information about a devastating fire in the house of Khursheed Ahmed in Jisher Drabshalla. The fire claimed the lives of his first wife, Nazia Begum (35 years), and their two children, Amina Bano (10 years) and Rizan Ahmed (5 years), who were burnt alive.
Upon receiving the report, an inquest under Section 194 BNSS was initiated at PP Drabshalla, and the charred bodies were taken into custody for post-mortem. After completing all legal formalities, the remains were handed over to their legal heirs for the last rites.
Realizing the suspicious circumstances of the incident, SSP Kishtwar constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT was led by Insp. Firdous Ahmed (SHO PS Kishtwar), assisted by PSI Ankush Sharma (IC PP Drabshalla), under the supervision of Dy. SP Hqrs Kishtwar, Dr. Ishan Gupta-JKPS.
The team collected crucial evidence with the help of technical analysis and took multiple suspects into custody for questioning. During the enquiry, it emerged that Khursheed Ahmed had two wives—Nazia Begum (the deceased) and Asma Begum (the second wife). This led the investigation to a complex web of domestic disputes.
After sustained efforts, the SIT zeroed in on Asma Begum, who ultimately confessed to the crime in front of Executive Magistrate. She revealed that on the night of November 11, 2024, she had premeditatedly executed the murder due to ongoing personal disputes with Nazia.
After establishing the involvement of Asma in gruesome murder, the inquest proceeding was converted into FIR and investigation taken up.
The police swiftly arrested Asma Begum, ensuring justice for the victims. SSP Kishtwar commended the efforts of the SIT for their dedication and professionalism in cracking this complex case. He also issued a strong warning to criminals, emphasizing that such heinous crimes will be met with the full force of the law. District Police Kishtwar remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguard the community and upholding justice.
