Women’s polo match held to mark Ladakh festival

As part of the Ladakh Festival 2026, a Women’s Polo Exhibition Match was held today at the Shagaran Polo Ground, Chuchot.

The event was attended by Sanjit Rodrigues, Administrative Secretary of Tourism & Culture, Rudra Goud, Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Sheep Husbandry, Tashi Dolma, Director of Tourism and Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer. Tundup Dorjey, President of the Indus Chuchot Polo Club, along with club members, local residents. National and international tourists, were also present.

The Polo Match Organized in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department and Indus Chuchot Polo Club, the match featured a 30-minute game divided into two 15-minute halves between the Animal Husbandry team and the Shayok Polo Club. The Animal Husbandry team emerged victorious, winning the match by 5–3 score.

Additionally, during the event, officials discussed plans to develop the Chuchot Shagaran Ground into a permanent Horse Polo Academy and Centre of Excellence for youth training. Ongoing infrastructure upgrades include player rooms and improvement of the ground surface, while the Animal Husbandry Department will oversee equine health, vaccinations, and training to promote sports tourism.
