50 critical care unit (CCU) beds have been set up by a foundation run by former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh at Government Medical College & Hospital. The CCU beds have been set up so as to handle the possible third wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
Spokesperson of the foundation said that CCU beds have been set up under the initiative ‘Mission1000Beds’ which is in collaboration with Accenture.
Further spokesperson said that funds which have been contributed by Accenture have also been used by ‘YouWeCan’ Foundation to provide a range of medical equipment including ICU ventilators, BiPAP machines, patient monitors, ECG machines, defibrillators and oxygen cylinders to the hospital.
She said the facility was inaugurated virtually by Yuvraj Singh in the presence of Dr Yashpal Sharma, Director (Coordination), New Government Medical Colleges, J&K and representatives from Accenture.
The former Indian cricketer said that second wave of Covid-19 has deeply affected the health infrastructure of the country. He further added that at that time the country has witnessed shortage of ICU beds, oxygen cylinders, and other critical care facilities. He further said that there is an utmost need to be a helping hand to the healthcare providers and frontline workers.
He said that through ‘Mission1000Beds’ initiative, they are setting up Covid-19 critical care facilities at hospitals across the country.
‘YouWeCan’ Foundation has partnered with Accenture to set up a total of 385 CCU beds at government hospitals across Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Assam as well.
