14 candidates in race for post of VC Jammu University

The race for the post of new Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu is being carried out extensively and for the same 14 candidates has been shortlisted. The interviews have been kept on March 9.

There were around 234 applications received for the post of Vice Chancellor, 14 have been scrutinized and out of which three have been shortlisted from Jammu University itself, reportedly.

Upcoming days will witness the new face of Vice Chancellor as once the interview is conducted by the committee, a final list of three candidates which will shortlisted after the interview will be done and then will be handed over to Lieutenant Governor who is also the de-facto Chancellor of the institution. As per reports, one of the candidates will be finally stamped by the lieutenant governor for the new face of vice chancellor.

As per reports, out of three names names of Jammu University, two names of professors shortlisted included Prof. Meena Sharma, Prof. Department of Economics, Dipankar Sen Gupta while rest 11 candidates are from outside Jammu and Kashmir. Now the time period for the post of vice chancellor has been reduced to three years from five years.

Meanwhile, the search for the new post of VC of Kashmir University for which Pankaj Mittal, general secretary of the Indian Association of Universities, has been appointed as the chairman of the search committee, while Prof Najma Akhtar, VC, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Professor Muhammad Mian, former VC of MANUU, have been appointed as members. The exercise for shortlisting the candidate for the post of VC of Kashmir University is under process, reportedly. Sitting Jammu University VC, Prof. Manoj Dhar’s three-year term ended on July 25, 2021, while Kashmir University’s VC, Prof. Talat Ahmed’s three-year term ended on August 5, 2021.
