150 Ladakh pilgrims stuck in Manali for 10 days

Around 150 people from the Zanskar valley of Ladakh for the past ten days has been stuck in Manali as they visited Himachal Pradesh for pilgrimage and some other necessary activities after a heavy snowfall blocked the roads and highways including those which connected Ladakh.

People have been asking for help from the Ladakh administration especially women. A group of women called the SDM office in Manali and requested them to help them go back home.

One of the stranded women, Dechan said that the group had come to visit temples in Lahaul and Kullu but they have been stuck here for ten days. She further added, “On our return home last Sunday, we were told that traffic had been interrupted due to a snowfall. We are seeking help from the government of Ladakh and Himachal to bring us home safely”.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been clearing snow from the Manali-Leh highway, but it will not clear snow from the Darcha-Shinkula-Zanskar highway until next summer. The stuck people are now waiting for opening of Manali-Leh highway so that th ey could reach home via Kargil.
