Lt Governor Manoj Sinha today constituted a three-member committee to probe the causes of the Vaishnodevi landslide tragedy in which 35 people have died.
The Lieutenant Governor ordered constitution of a three-member committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Shaleen Kabra to enquire into the reasons behind the tragic land-slide incident near Ardhkuwari on Vaishno Devi track on 26 August. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and IGP, Jammu are the two other members of the committee.
The committee has been asked to examine in detail the causes/reasons behind the incident and point out any lapses, assess responses in the form to rescue and relief measures undertaken and suggest appropriate SoPs and measures for preventing recurrence of such incidents in future.
The committee shall submit its report within two weeks to the Lieutenant Governor.
The ruling National Conference leadership had earlier during the day demanded judicial inquiry into the tragedy.
