Cricketers from India and abroad stuck in Srinagar as IHPL turns ‘messy’

Over 60 cricketers, including many international players, who were stranded in a Srinagar hotel after the organisers of the Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL) allegedly fled without paying dues, have been allowed to leave after intervention of the police.

These players were earlier held up by the hotel staff as the bills were not cleared by the organisers, reports said.

Among those stranded were former cricketers Faiz Fazal and Iqbal Abdullah, along with Anupreet Singh, Parveen Kumar, and players from Sri Lanka, Qatar, and Jammu and Kashmir.

The J&K Police has taken cognizance of the incident

The privately-run IHPL T20 tournament was thrown into confusion after its organisers allegedly fled to Delhi, leaving behind unpaid hotel charges and pending player fees. The players had travelled from across India and abroad to take part in the league.

Police have begun preliminary inquiries into the incident.

It was a shock for them when the players were told not to come to the ground as the organisers were nowhere in sight.
