H&UDD’s lackadaisical approach towards the master plans of towns

In the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Housing and Urban Development Department has been showing a lackadaisical attitude towards the master plans of various towns submitted long time back. Government doesn’t have any plan to solve the problems of an organization which is handling the vital task of urban planning in the UT.

Town Planning Organization handles planned development and regulation of settlements and suggests technical opinions to various development agencies, urban local bodies and government departments.

But the Town Planning Organization is becoming weak due to non seriousness of its Administrative Department—Housing and Urban Development, reportedly.

As per reports, there is no chief town planner and the post is being held by senior town planner. Also, one post of senior town planner is lying vacant. Likewise, two posts of town planners are vacant and additional charge of one post has been assigned to another officer. Almost all the officers are holding the post on incharge basis as during the past several years the Departmental Promotion Committee meeting has not been convened.

To an utter surprise, reorganization of the Town Planning Organization has not happened since several years. The master plans of many towns are lying defunct which were submitted long ago. Not working on these master plans the Housing and Urban Development Department is hindering the development.
