Encounter in Kashmir has claimed lives of three more army jawans who were injured in the gunfight with Pakistan backed ultras on Sunday in Kupwara district have succumbed to their injuries taking the total number of martyrs to eight.

Five terrorists were also killed by the army in Keran sector of Kupwara. A group of Pak backed terrorists was on its way to sneak into this side of the border when the alert soldiers of the army detected the movement and opened fire on terrorists. A gunfight that ensued resulted in injuring eight soldiers who were taken to the nearby army medical facility.

The soldiers were evacuated with difficulty due to inclement weather conditions in the area. The injured were evacuated despite heavy snow but five of the soldiers succumbed on Sunday. Three soldiers who were undergoing treatment died on Monday morning.

The encounter had started on the intervening night of April 3 and 4. Terrorists are said to have entered the Indian territory from Shamsabri sector and were hiding in Gujjar Dhok in Poswal area.

Those who were martyred on Sunday include Subedar Sanjeev Kumar of Himachal Pradesh, Haveldar Davendra Singh of Utarakhand, paratrooper Bal Krishan of Himachal Pradesh, Paratrooper Amit Kumar of Utarakhand and Chhatrapal Singh of Rajasthan.

Terrorists entering the Indian soil from Pakistan bring along high tech gadgets for maneuvers in mountainous terrain. Most of the times army seizes GPS, military maps, direction compass among others when they infiltrate the border.

This was after a long time that an encounter in Kashmir during an infiltration bid had broken out between soldiers and armed terrorists. After the abrogation of Article 370 and limited access to internet in Jammu and Kashmir, handlers of terrorists in Pakistan are finding it difficult to send them in groups due to strict vigil on borders.
