Action initiated against cop responsible for lathi-charge on media in Srinagar

Action against a police personnel was initiated after several complaints by scribes over their thrashing during coverage of Muharram procession at Jehangir Chowk in Srinagar on Tuesday.

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh had said that the incident was not acceptable and asked senior officials to identify and take action against the cop responsible for the incident that attracted criticism of J&K police.

Several videos and pictures were shared on social media by users in which policemen were seen lathi charging the media persons during the coverage of Muharram procession.

A senior police officer said the Station House Officer (SHO) has been removed from Shergari police station and shifted to district police lines.

Dilbag Singh said “This is not acceptable. I have asked SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Srinagar to take strict action against the erring officer.”
