Jammu :- In a shocking incident of gang violence that unfolded Tuesday at Jammu’s bustling Jewel Chowk, a 37-year-old man was fatally shot in what police describe as an inter-gang conflict. Sumit Jandyal, a resident of Vijaypur’s ward number 9, was targeted by rival gang members who opened fire on his red Thar vehicle before fleeing the scene.
ADGP Jammu Zone Anand Jain, who visited the crime scene along with DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma and other senior police officials, confirmed that the shooting was linked to rivalry between the Gataru Gang of Vijaypur-Samba and their opponents. The top cop explicitly ruled out any terror-related angles in the case.
Despite being rushed to GMC Jammu Hospital, Jandyal was pronounced dead on arrival. The brazen attack occurred in broad daylight at one of Jammu’s most frequented intersections, sending shockwaves through the local community. Police have seized the victim’s vehicle, bearing registration number JK21-G-0770, and launched an extensive manhunt across Jammu and Samba districts to apprehend the perpetrators.
Law enforcement has moved swiftly to address the situation, registering an FIR at the local police station and forming a Special Investigation Team to probe the murder. The incident has raised concerns about gang-related violence in the region and the authorities’ ability to maintain public safety in high-traffic areas.
