As mercury dips, winter vacations announced for schools in Kashmir, Jammu winter zones

Winter vacations have been announced for the all government and recognized private schools of Kashmir and winter zones of Jammu. Officials announced winter vacations on Tuesday.

Principal Secretary School Education Department, Bishwajit Kumar Singh said that winter vacations up to class 8th will be from December 6 to February 28 whereas from 9th to 12th will observe winter vacations from December 13 to February 28.

Singh said that there shall be no change on the part of head of institution regarding vacations as it will lead to strict action under rules.

The decision for winter vacations has been taken due to intensifying cold conditions prevailing in Kashmir.

Recently, Meteorological department forecasted the western disturbance which is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from December 4 onwards which can cause light to moderate rain and snow at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on December 5.

Principal Secretary informed that online exams going on can be conducted in the same way both in government and private sector, before closing the institutions for the winter vacations.

He further informed that schools will be allowed to complete the ongoing exams so that it doesn’t remain pending for the next year but no class work for the students.  He further added that if there are no ongoing exams in schools, then they should follow the calendar of winter vacations.

Meanwhile, the district administration Kargil has also ordered for closure of all the educational institutions for in-person teaching from December 3.
