Bus Accident: Divisional Commissioner asks PWD to identify black spots in Doda district.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar today visited the accident site in Assar Doda where 39 passengers of a bus were killed and 17 injured when the vehicle rolled into a deep gorge yesterday.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, DIG DKR Dr Sunil Gupta, DIG Traffic Jammu Sridhar Patil, Transport Commissioner Jammu, Chief Engineer PWD, SSP Doda, SSP Traffic, Executive Engineers, and other officials reviewed the immediate preventive measures.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the Executive Engineer PWD to identify and compile a list of black spots in the district. In a bid to enhance road safety, he also instructed concerned officers for raising of crash barrier heights along roads besides measures include the installation of signages and mirrors to improve visibility and awareness.

He asked concerned departments to take every possible step ensuring the safety of commuters and preventing future mishaps on the roads of Doda. 

Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner visited Government Medical College & Hospital Doda and inquired about the health of those injured in the accident.

Senior doctors apprised him about the health condition of injured and medical procedures being followed. Div Com has directed to appoint a nodal officer for coordination and to take care of the injured at Associated Hospital GMC Doda. It was informed that 15 injured were admitted to GMC Doda for treatment and all are stable. 

He directed the Hospital Administration for ensuring the best possible medical care and assistance for their speedy recovery.

Later, Ramesh Kumar, along DC Doda, DIG DKR, DIG Traffic Jammu, Transport Commissioner Jammu, SSP Doda, SSP Traffic, Additional Secretary Road Safety Council J&K, and others called the Road Safety Committee meeting in Conference Hall of DC office complex to asses the cause and discuss future Safety measures to avoid such incidences causing loss to precious lives in the road accidents. instructions have been passed to post a competent doctor and paramedics in the CHC Assar. He has asked to station a critical care/ Advanced Life Support Ambulance in between Assar and Khellani for immediate rescue response and to minimise the loss of life. ARTO has been asked to take strict action against the defaulters and habitual traffic rules violators, besides increasing the roadside checking of vehicles and drivers. PWD, PMGSY, and NHIDCL authorities have been directed to ensure proper crash barriers on all the black spots, signages, speed limits, and other safety equipment for the safety and awareness of the commuters.

Divisional Commissioner has further asked for strengthening control rooms, Inter-District coordination and health care infrastructure in the erstwhile District Doda. He urged to have updated and active blood donors group, disaster response teams, and local rescue volunteers. He impressed upon the district authority to ensure the proper training of Civil Defense volunteers, and general public for immediate rescue response when required. He emphasized that immediate audit of the causes of accident and casualties by the designated officers drawn from Civil, Police, MVD, Health, and Traffic Department.
