Centre reportedly considering creation of 2 new districts in Ladakh

The central government is reportedly considering creation of two new districts in Ladakh to address the demand of the people of Leh and Kargil districts. People of Leh and Kargil had recently taken out massive processions in support of their 4-point charter including Sixth Schedule and statehood.

There were indications that in a bid to cool down the tempers, the centre might also enhance powers of the Leh and Kargil- Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (LAHDC)

While the BJP has been demanding the creation of five new districts in Ladakh, the Union Government is likely to announce two new administrative units, one each in Leh and Kargil.

The Home Ministry has invited for talks on February 19 leaders of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and the Leh Apex Body (LAB).
