Cleaning of Siachen Glacier, Indus banks, Chaddar trek stretch discussed

Lt. Governor RK Mathur was called on by Sonam Paljor, member Environment Conservation and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Committee.

Paljor apprised the Lt. Governor of the Himalayan Cleaning campaign under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and requested for support of the administration to spread awareness regarding the fragile ecosystem of the Himalyan and Trans-Himalyan regions and steps needed for its conservation.

Cleaning of Siachen Glacier, Indus banks, Chaddar trek stretch, Stok Kangri (glacier), trekking route in the Markha valley, Nubra sand dunes and the lakes across Ladakh witnessing huge tourist footfalls viz. the Pangong, Tsomo-riri, Ya-Ya etc were recommended by Paljor. The concept of providing special training on rescue and survival at school, college and community levels was also discussed during the interaction.

Paljor is also a member of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and a Padma Shri recipient from 1991.

Another delegation led by the President of Ladakh Sea Buckthorn Association (LSA) called on LG Mathur and requested support in subsidized procurement of machinery for setting up processing plants for the berry products. The delegation expressed the need for establishment of a laboratory for testing and research to enhance the quality of Sea Buckthorn products to match the international standards.

Expressing his concerns regarding the current storage and transportation facilities of the raw berry and processed products, the President LSA requested LG Mathur for establishment of a common cold storage facility.

Lt. Governor Mathur assured them with all possible support from the administration.
