Cloudburst in Kishtwar: 7 bodies recovered, scores injured in tragedy

Police and rescue teams were able to rescue six bodied after a major cloudburst struck the mountainous Kishtwar district in Jammu division.

Several others are reported to be missing after which State Disaster Response Force was pressed into the duty in Honjar village of Kishtwar.

A police official said that the missing might be over 28.

The incident occurred at around 4 am on Wednesday when a cloud burst over Honjar village in Dacchan area of Kishtwar district took place. A search and rescue operation has been launched. The mobile and landline phone connectivity in the area was also broken due to the cloudburst and the police were using wireless to know the situation.

Kishtwar town is around 200 km from Jammu and is a remote and hilly district of J&K.

“Six bodies have been recovered so far,” Kishtwar DC Ashok Kumar Sharma said. Teams from the Indian Air Force are expected to join the rescue operation shortly, teams from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are being airlifted from Jammu to Kishtwar,
