Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today flew to Hubli to cheer for the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team as it prepares for a historic title clash in the Ranji Trophy final against the Karnataka cricket team.

Jammu and Kashmir scripted history by reaching their first-ever Ranji Trophy final after defeating the Bengal Cricket Team by six wickets in Kalyani on Wednesday — a milestone widely hailed as a defining moment for cricket in the Union Territory.

Sharing a photograph from the flight on X, Abdullah said he was heading to Hubli to support the team during the final.

“On our way to Hubli to cheer the J&K cricket team as they play the final of the Ranji Trophy. They’ve already made lakhs of people so very proud of their achievements by reaching the final. I’m really looking forward to spending the day tomorrow in the stands cheering them on,” he wrote.

In another post, the Office of the Chief Minister described the occasion as a landmark moment for J&K cricket, saying the team carries the hopes, prayers and unwavering support of the entire region.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by his political advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Tanvir Sadiq, expressed pride in the team’s performance, noting that reaching the final has already made lakhs of people across Jammu and Kashmir proud.

Jammu and Kashmir’s entry into the Ranji Trophy final has generated widespread enthusiasm across the Union Territory, with supporters and cricket enthusiasts celebrating the achievement as a major breakthrough in the region’s sporting history.
