Cold wave increases in Kashmir, Gulmarg freezes at minus 10°C

Freezing cold conditions continues to prevail across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Mercury dipped down to minus 10 degrees Celsius for Gulmarg on Thursday.

The temperature in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district was down by nearly two degrees Celsius from minus 8.6°C the previous night, as per meteorological department official said.  

The temperature at Srinagar recorded minus 2.1 degrees Celsius on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, had a low of minus 3.0°C against minus 4.2°C on the previous night, reportedly.

The officials said that Pahalgam, recorded a low of minus 6.9 degrees Celsius. The south Kashmir resort had recorded minus 6.4 degrees Celsius the previous night. Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.0°C against minus 3.9°C on previous night, the official said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 4.5°C against minus 3.8°C on the previous night, the official said.

The temperature at Ladakh’s Leh was low of minus 15.0°C against last night’s minus 11.6°C while automatic Kargil station recorded minimum of minus 12.5°C. Drass in Kargil, recorded a low of minus 19.2°C, the official said.
