Crackdown against illegal mining starts on orders of Deputy Commissioner

District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today asked the enforcement agencies to launch a major crackdown to curb illegal mining practices in the district.

He was chairing a meeting of the concerned officers to review the measures put in place to keep a check on illegal extraction of river bed material.

The DDC also asked to take stern action as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal against the persons found involved in the illegal river bed extraction.

Asking for scientific excavation of minor minerals, the DDC said that excessive and unplanned mining poses a serious threat to the environment and immediate measures must be put in place to stop it.

He asked for establishing special Nakas to keep check on the perpetrators. Several remedial measures were also discussed to save the aquatic life besides protection of river creeks from illegal mining.
