Darlings Movie: does the Alia Bhatt flick promotes domestic violence?

‘Darlings’ movie released on Netflix on August 5, starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Verma has definitely landed into several controversies. ‘Darlings’ is a quirky thriller take on domestic violence and abuse against men and women. Netizens are taking a dig on the Alia’s ‘Darlings’ as it showcases a dark comedy on a sensitive issue.

Badrunissa Shaikh aka Badru (Alia Bhatt) in the beginning of the movie is shown as a victim of domestic abuse after she gets married to Hamza (Vijay Varma). Bhatt keeps getting beaten up almost every night for some or the other reason every time. The intensity of abuse gets disturbing and more intense with each passing day, until when Badru decides to stand up and fight against it.

In a major twist, mother (Shefali Shah) of Badru and daughter decide to take matter in their own hands and put an end to the rough treatment made by her husband. And, just by the way, it is flashes of the scenes depicting how they rough him up and movie showcases various sections which took the internet by storm.

However, the movie also depicts how a woman can overpower a man when reqired and bring justice to herself
