The meeting of Jammu and Kashmir leaders with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 24 at the PM’s official residence in New Delhi was held in a positive manner reportedly. All the statements and reports which came forward were positive. Most of the leaders were satisfied with the meeting.

But alleged double speak of the leaders from some of the regional parties in Kashmir, including National Conference, Peoples Democratic Part, Peoples Conference and the Aping Party can be seen coming forward since their meeting with PM and visit of the Delimitation Commission to J&K.

“It is very unfortunate to have politicians doublespeak over such sensitive issues. It is like they speak one language in Delhi, some other in Jammu and really different in Kashmir valley” said a senior leader of BJP in Jammu.

Mehbooba Mufti, Peoples Democratic Party, President, after the meeting with PM said that the discussions were productive but later she did not meet the Delimitation Commission.

While the National Conference in a formal letter to the Delimitation Commission have welcomed the delimitation exercise, the party leaders after meeting the visiting delegates have been telling people that they have reservations over the long awaited exercise to redraw assembly constituencies.

Sajad Lone, President of Peoples Conference and his then party colleague Muzaffar Hussain Baig both after the meeting said that the meet was a positive one. But few days later, Sajad and Baig parted their ways.

CPIM leader MY Tarigami who was the spokesman of Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Decleration or PAGD, after meeting the PM, had not been “so affirmative” about the talks whereas other leaders had expressed optimism.

A political observer said that Kashmiri leaders have been exposed since they speak one language in Delhi and other in the valley.
