Few blue-eyed or favoured contractors have been allegedly allotted development works by Public Works (Road and Building) Departments Rajouri and Poonch. It has been alleged that eligible contractors have been left out.
As per reports, no inspection of quality check is done by the department of the works done by the contractors even though there have been many complaints regarding poor quality roads.
Contractors even don’t spend half of the actual amount which has been authorized for the work which consequently led to poor quality of work. Recently in Government Medical College and hospital a retaining wall collapsed after the rainfall.
Similarly the roads in villages under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) don’t stay for long and gets dilapidated. Moreover during the rainy season the quality of roads clearly gets exposed.
Favourite contractors are given work and those who are eligible are ignored and there is no transparency in work.
It has been appealed to the Lieutenant Governor for starting up the inspection process so that quality of works which has been done by the favoured contractors to the senior officials of the department might be exposed, reportedly. When contacted the Executive Engineer PWD, didn’t bother to respond to the matter and later said that he was busy in a meeting.
