In an attempt to strengthen the audit and inspections in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha approved establishment of audit offices.

The approval was given for creating 54 posts at various levels to ensure establishment of District Audit Offices in October 2021. Several months have passed Directorate of Audit and Inspections have failed to establish audit offices at various district levels in J&K. Despite the approval of Administrative Council headed by LG, the Audit Offices in the districts have yet not been established.

In order to bring accountability in the system at the grass root level and making the audit process more effective and efficient this vital decision was taken. Official statement read that since the Audit and Inspection Directorate is an empowered arm of the government for internal audit of the government departments and autonomous bodies, the decision will go a long way in holding periodically internal audit of various Government entities.

The delay in establishing audit offices clearly shows the lackadaisical attitude of the concerned officers, since it was ensured that these offices will be made soon, reportedly.

Director General Audit and Inspections Fayaz Ahmed Lone told Excelsior that Audit Offices have yet not been established in the districts but he declined to answer other queries.

As per reports, Directorate of Audit and Inspections doesn’t have functional and proper website and there is no information of inspections and audits conducted by the Directorate in the public domain.
