Amar Mahal Palace was built in 1862 and is located atop a hill overlooking the Tawi river, four rooms of the palace have been converted into art galleries and historic museums which puts light on the history of Jammu.

Jammu also allows one to enjoy a hill holiday with its destinations of Patnitop and Doda. Patnitop is situated in Udhampur district which is a home to scenic plateau of Shiwalik range of Himalayas and one can enjoy treks, garden, scenic views, visit few temples and much more. Snowy slopes of Patnitop also allow one to do skiing and snowboarding.

People who are fond of wildlife can also visit Kishtwar National Park and Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary which is bestowed with rich flora & fauna.

There are many places where one can get famous items of the region. One of the famous Raghunath Bazar offers tourists with all the things in their bucket list. It has all the variety of dry fruits, clothes, footwear, electronics and what not.

Tourists also enjoys shopping in Jammu mall, JDA complex which has many shops that sell local items like woolen wear, dry fruits, handicrafts, and all the everyday essentials. The various shopping items often liked and bought by tourists includes wooden carved products made out of wood from walnut trees.

Jammu is also blessed with providing mouthwatering dishes and commonly used items in the cuisine of Jammu include lentils, pulses, mutton, rice, and potatoes. There are many Dogri dishes which include Ambal, Kulthein di Dal, Khatta Meat, Dal Patt, Maa da Madra, and Auriya.

Jammu city is the main cultural and economic centre of the administrative division of Jammu. One of the most famous local Basmati rice is produced in the RS Pura area near Jammu, which is then processed in rice mills in Jammu.
