FIR registered against contractor company and NHIDCL for dumping debris in Kishtwar

District Kishtwar administration today ordered action against a contractor company and NHIDCL for violation of environment norms while executing the work on National Highway 244.

Taking cognizance of a report submitted by Tehsildar Drabshalla about indiscriminate dumping of muck and debris by the Contractor Company R&B Infra Project Pvt. Ltd and NHIDCL, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kishori Lal Sharma directed SHO Kishtwar to lodge an FIR under Section 133 and the relevant provisions of the law in the matter against the erring agency.

As reported by the local administration, the private executing agency dumped debris and muck on the land acquired for JKSPDC for Rattle Hydro Electric Power Project at Khasra No. 27 min of village Salana Tehsil Drabshalla.

The civil administration informed that the huge quantity of muck dumped in this land will adversely affect the prestigious Rattle Hydro Electric Power Project and also causes huge loss to the Government exchequer.

The report further reads that unscientific dumping of muck/debris at unspecified locations along the National Highway NH-244 leads to severe damage to the ecology Flora and Fauna of this ecologically fragile area.

Besides, the debris also goes into river Chenab leading to irreparable damage to its physical and biological features which bears offences and are punishable under Environment Protection Act 1986; Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1975 besides it leads a public nuisance in the area under Section 133.
