Amid the pandemic, Former health minister of J&K Choudhary Lal Singh, criticized the UT administration for shooting up Covid deaths in Jammu region, specifically in Jammu district.
Lal Singh raised questions on administration regarding GMCs in Kathua, Doda and Rajouri on their purpose during the pandemic.
Jammu so far has recorded 1,067 Covid deaths which is highest among all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
During his reign from 2002 to 2004 in the Congress-PDP alliance, the blazing and fiery leader had brought the whole health department back on track by making its bureaucrats, superintendents, doctors, paramedics and other health staff answerable to work.
Choudhary Lal Singh is among the six health ministers in past 20-25 years who came from Jammu including Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma, Suman Bhagat, Sham Lal Sharma, Bali Bhagat and Dr DK Manyal but it was him who corrected the entire health system.
Lal Singh suggests the administration to bring transparency in the system by putting CCTV cameras in Covid care centres , government and private hospitals which will clear the picture of the system and will keep the check on deaths.
Also he added that misconduct of hospitals from other districts in Jammu should be immediately stopped who refer Covid patients to GMC Jammu by saying that they don’t have enough staff and beds which is not the case.
He told HT that there has been posting of qualified doctors in district and sub-district hospitals, primary health centres and community health centres who are experienced and better than medical students at GMC Jammu.
