Unscheduled power cuts have thrown normal life out of gear across Jammu and Kashmir. Tensions among people have increased in J&K due to power outages and are hindering their daily life activities. In an irony, since past few months J&K government through various advertisements had made an impact that power situation has improved in the Union Territory.
Crores of rupees have been spent in publicity, advertisements issued on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL). But all such advertisements, publicity has fallen flat as major power crisis has hit J&K. Since first week of April power outages have increased and people are facing prolonged power cuts.
Though such advertisements have taken a break now but crores of rupees have already been spent on these. As per reports, funds had been allocated to J&K by Union government for purchasing power. J&K government allegedly failed to utilize these funds judiciously.
Since past few months lots of funds were used for publicizing but ground reality is entirely different. People of J&K are facing a major power crisis with prolonged power cuts. Even areas having smart meters are facing major power cuts. Despite tall claims of J&K administration to provide uninterrupted power supply to areas having smart meters falls flat.
These claims seem to have vanished in thin air as there are many areas equipped with smart meters are experiencing frequent power cuts and yet not are curtailment free. There are various areas in Jammu which are facing 8 to 10 hours long unscheduled curtailments amid rising mercury. Public anger has also increased against the administration which is forcing them to come out on the streets and stage their protest, demanding some relief during these hot summer days as people have been made to spend sleepless nights in the open due to this power crisis.
