Growers advised to speed up apple harvest as heavy snowfall predicted in Kashmir

The horticulture department has issued an advisory to fruit growers in Kashmir to harvest apple crops as soon as possible due to early prediction of snowfall by Metrological department. 

The department has warned that a fresh western disturbance is approaching the region which could lead to heavy snowfall and rains from Friday.

Thus it has been advised to speed up the harvesting of fruits and proper storage facilities.

Horticulture department director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat said that as IMD has revealed an advisory thus it has been informed to growers to harvest apples in the orchards where apples are still on trees. He added that the apple growers should also prune trees and ensure proper drainage in the orchards. He also advised that people should not panic but start working to save their orchards and crop.

Department of Horticulture has urged that cleaning of drainage channels should be done so that stagnation of water does not take place in orchards.
