High security number plates in J&K: 187 booked, Rs 5 lakh fine imposed

Motor Vehicles Department, Ramban intensified its drive against violators of Motor Vehicle Act and other traffic rules especially focused on affixation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on the vehicles.

In this regard enforcement teams led by Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Ramban, Shafqat Majeed challaned 187 vehicles for different violations of Motor Vehicle Act including 60 challan for not affixation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on the vehicles and imposed a fine of nearly Rs 5 lakh on the violators in last two weeks.

According to the ARTO, MVD Ramban has imposed 921 challans and realised fine to the tune of Rs 29 lakh from traffic violators during last financial year across the district.

He informed that enforcement teams of MVD are conducting physical checking of vehicles at different locations including Banihal, Maitra, Seri, Chanderkote, Gool, Sangaldan and various other parts of the district to catch violators especially those who have not affixed HSRP on vehicles.

The ARTO also advised vehicle owners and transporters to immediately get the HSRP installed on their vehicles by or before May 15, 2022, failing which the department would be constrained to seize/ detain such vehicles.
