Higher reaches of J&K witness fresh snowfall, heavy rain in plains

On Saturday, higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed heavy snowfall while the plains received heavy rains in the Union Territory.

MeT department official said that moderate snow was also recorded in tourist resorts Gulmarg, Pahalgam besides Shopian, Zojila, Drass, Zanskar, Gurez and other higher and middle reaches.

Officials said that in Qazigund highest rain of 58 mm was recorded while in Kokernag 50mm and in Banihal 48mm was recorded.

South Kashmir’s Shopian town recorded 4 to 5 inches of snow in the morning, reportedly.

As per the official, the currently this will likely to persist during next 8-10 hours and gradual decrease thereafter. He added that signifiant improvement from Sunday afternoon and dry weather is expected till 2nd November.

Minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar as 7.3 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded 0.1 degree Celsius and minus 1.3 degrees Celsius, respectively. Jammu city recorded 15.4 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperature.
