In a significant effort to tighten the noose against violation of traffic rules and to moderate the traffic mishaps, Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, accessed the road safety, security measures and checked passengers vehicles, model police naka points while en-route from Batote to Kishtwar district this morning. The action has come following a number of road accidents on the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar route.
Jain was accompanied by DIG DKR Dr Sunil Gupta, SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom and SSP Kishtwar Khalil Poswal they travelled by road from Batote to Kishtwar and inspected many vehicles plying on roads and checked road stretches prone to accidents on various counts.
In a bid to overcome overloading in passenger vehicles and ensure safety of passengers IGP Jammu personally conducted surprise checks of buses plying en-route. He directed all concerned to take stern action against overloading, over speeding and rash and negligent driving.
The IGP reviewed the progress of installation of CCTV Cameras and other safety devices in passenger buses and directed the officers to make special efforts and ensure installation of CCTV cameras in all buses plying on the routes of this hilly region.
Moreover, the officers were directed to take stringent action against the erring drivers, traffic violators if any modification, alteration beyond the seating capacity in the Passenger vehicles is noticed.
While checking the Model naka Points at Baggar (District Doda) and Drabshala (District Kishtwar) he monitored the fitted CCTV cameras and gave on spot directions to the police personnel deployed there.
During the visit, IGP Jammu emphasized identifying hot spots and placing proper crash barriers, signage’s, and caution boards. He also directed SSPs to regularly conduct meetings with all stakeholders like civil administration, traffic police, ARTOs, Transporters, unions, and take all possible steps and efforts to curb the menace of road traffic tragic accidents
