Inter-state arms smuggling gang busted by Amritsar Police, 13 pistols recovered

Amidst the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Amritsar Commissionerate Police busted an Inter-state arms smuggling racket with the arrest of its one key member from the area of Village Bhaini in Amritsar, said CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar here on Tuesday.

The arrested person has been identified as Amritpal Singh alias Kallu (28), a resident of village Bhullar in Tarn Taran. The arrested accused has been facing at least eight criminal cases pertaining to the NDPS Act and Hurt in various districts. The police team has also recovered thirteen .32 bore pistols along with 26 magazines and two live rounds, apart from impounding his Hyundai I-20 car.

CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting swiftly on secret information about illegal weapons being smuggled from Madhya Pradesh to supply them to criminal elements in the state, Police team from CIA-2 under the supervision of DCP Investigation Harpreet Singh Mander and ADCP CITY-2 Prabhjot Singh Virk, ACP West Kamaljit Singh Aulakh launched a special operation and apprehended the accused from Village Bhaini, Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar.

 “During questioning, the arrested accused disclosed that he used to buy one pistol from Madhya Pradesh for Rs 35,000 and sell it for Rs 50,000 in Punjab,” he said, while adding that Police teams are putting all efforts to unearthing the whole network, identify the complete procurement and supply chain across to bust the network.

A case FIR no. 273 dated 10-12-2023 has been registered under Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act at Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar.
