Jammu police foils Congress leaders march against property tax

The heavy contingent of police today foiled an attempt by the Congress workers to hold protest and block the Tawi Bridge when it prevented the protest march  of the Senior Congress leaders and large number of workers to proceed ahead, as the party  today held a strong protest demonstration seeking roll back of the decision to impose property tax besides removal of toll plazas and  various other taxes on the common people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The leaders also sought immediate restoration of status of state to J&K.

Led by JKPCC Vice President and former Minister Raman Bhalla, Kanta Bhan,  Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, Rajnish Sharma,  Shiv Dev Singh, Ashok Sharma, Indu Pawar, Ch. Gharu Ram and several  other prominent leaders took out a strong protest demonstration at Shaheedi Chowk Jammu City to register protest over the  decision for imposition of property tax.

Congress leaders and workers charged BJP of unleashing a Tax terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir amidst worst economic crises in the  country apart from covid-19 crisis and unprecedented price hike. The protestors carried play cards seeking roll back of property Tax decision  and other taxes besides immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without any further delay.

The protesters raised slogans against BJP led government for anti-people decisions against the various hardships face by the  people including economic crises, Covid-19 situation and the unprecedented hike. They marched towards the Tawi bridge to lodge their strong protest against the Centre and UT administration but the heavy contingent of police deployed  there  barricaded  with barbed wires also to prevent them from proceeding  ahead of the  residency road. Some workers reached  near Jewel Chowk and held protest there.

Similar protest was also held at Katra  in Dist. Reasi led by Shri Rajesh Sadotra, President J&K Pradesh Congress Seva Dal.  A large number of Congress workers took out a strong protest demonstration by raising slogans against the tax regime. They criticized the Modi led BJP Govt. for imposing heavy taxes of various kinds thus breaking the backbone of common man. Already people are facing great economic crises and the Modi Govt  has decided to impose property tax also. The pilgrimage, tourism and trade is totally closed but the BJP Govt. is putting huge burden of Taxes on the people, said Shri Rajesh Sadotra.

Addressing the gathering Raman Bhalla said that the people are suffering due to the tax regime of BJP. “The people face  difficulty in meeting both ends  during the manifold increase in prices of all commodities” Bhalla said.

He said that in recent times multiple taxes were imposed or hiked in Jammu  and Kashmir including toll tax, one time road tax and cubs, charging of higher rates of stamp duty besides manifold increase registration fee. The party vehemently opposed fleecing o the common people in name of various taxes and demanded review of the tax regime.
