Jammu is all set to receive a new gift as besides the expressway from Delhi to Katra, the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway will have a six-lane road from the busy Satwari, which will also have a flyover from Kunjwani to Satwari.
This project will benefit thousands of people in samba, Kathua, Bari Brahmana, etc. Through this route, the drivers will be able to reach Satwari and airport directly without facing any traffic jams. The entire project is expected to be completed in three years.
Ajay Rajat, project director, Highway Authority of India said that the project is going to start very soon. Authority has also been set up to acquire land for the same, which will be headed by Deputy Commissioner, Jammu. He said that the flyover from Kunjwani to Satwari on six-lane road from Raya Morh to Satwari will be directly linked to the airport through the command hospital.
Ajay Rajat said that a new terminal is going to be built in the airport. It is the job of airport authorities to decide whether it wants to take this flyover to the new terminal or receive vehicles from the old entrance. The proposal has been sent to the airport authorities. This project is also a part of the Delhi-Katra Expressway.
People who visit the airport from Jammu city will also be given a separate lane from Asia Chowk. This lane will take them directly to the airport. Project director Ajay Rajat said that the team is working to complete the project within three years. Detailed Project Road is also under preparation for the same.
It is expected that the toll plaza at Sarore in Jammu-Pathankot National Highway will be removed and shifted elsewhere on the same route. Moreover, its lanes can be increased from eight to 16 in order to eliminate vehicles jam at the toll plaza.
At present, there is a flyover network in Jammu city, which controls traffic in busy areas like Bikram Chowk, Tawi Bridge, Jewel Chowk, BC Road. In addition, the construction of flyovers from Canal Road to Akhnoor Road is also being done. It will take about a year to complete. Once it is over, the traffic problem will be reduced to a great extent. In addition, a flyover is also planned to be constructed from Canal Road to Bhagwati Nagar.
