Jammu University: Several key decisions taken during Academic Council meet

The Academic Council of University of Jammu met today  under the Chairmanship of Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor. At the outset, Prof Rai welcomed all including the new members and expressed his sincere gratitude towards the outgoing members who wholeheartedly supported the various academic initiatives.

M.A Defence & Strategic Studies started, B.Com.LL.B (5 Year) & B.Pharmacy introduced at Udhampur Campus, M.A Programme in Performing Arts (IMFA-UoJ), PG Diploma in Culture and Heritage Tourism in Jammu Region also started and Gandhian Study Centre revived. Name of Directorate of Distance Education is changed to Directorate of distance and Open Learning. Under NEP-2020 the Department of Lifelong Learning taken new initiatives as hands on learning initiative under the Course of Rural Development and Management.

Prof. Rai exuding confidence that the University of Jammu will touch new milestones in academic excellence, the Vice-Chancellor exhorted upon University fraternity to use all modes of technology, which enable University to touch new milestones. He congratulated the University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET) for getting 28 new faculty positions. He also appreciated the efforts of the Dean Academic Affairs and its team for successfully conducted Jammu University Entrance Test (JUET-2022) despite all odds.

Prof Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs in his address congratulated all for their support and hard work for the implementation of NEP-2020 at Under Graduate Level from the current Academic Session. He sought the cooperation of the University fraternity for taking forward the academic and research of the University for further improvement of the University rank. He also apprised the house about the constitution of 2 best athlete awards in the name of two students of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education who lost their lives in a tragic accident.

During the meeting, around 25 Agenda Items were presented by Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, University of Jammu. Threadbare discussions were held on each of the agenda items along with the Action Taken Report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.  The Council unanimously resolved to start M.A Defence & Strategic Studies started, B.Com.LL.B (5 Year) & B.Pharmacy at Udhampur Campus, M.A Programme in Performing Arts (IMFA-UoJ), PG Diploma in Culture and Heritage Tourism in Jammu Region in University of Jammu. Gandhian Study Centre was also revived. Name of Directorate of Distance Education is changed to Directorate of Distance and Open Learning.

The Academic Council also approved the scheme of giving relevant credits in Achievement Categories (NCC/NSS/Cultural/Sports/ Bharat Scouts & Guides) in each course of the relevant semesters to the students of Four year Under Graduate Programme (FYUGP) under NEP-2020 for the Academic Session 2022 onwards.

Various other important academic matters of the University related to admission, examination, research etc were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
