Jammu’s MA Stadium all-weather swimming pool misses deadline, short of funds

The speed of work of all-weather swimming pool has allegedly slowed down which was undertaken in 2019 in Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu due to financial crisis.

Due to shortage of funds the work has not been yet completed and they have missed another deadline. This pool is the only government facility in Jammu division that caters to swimmers and the fitness freak.

As per reports, J&K Sports Council which is the parent company was expected to get this facility till June but the work is still pending. Though the work was stopped due to Covid-19 restrictions in 2020 but it was resumed at the end of year following the unlock. But the work is going on at a very slow speed, firstly because of Covid-19 restrictions and the problem of funds.

An official said that the bills have been delivered to the concerned authorities but the response is awaited.

All-weather swimming pool was majorily demanded by swimmers and trainees who wished to participate in the competitions and did not had an access to hi-tech facilities.

Talking about the financial figures, the total expenditure to be spent for upgrading the pool into an all-weather facility was Rs 3.50 crores.
Out of total Rs 351.2 lakh (3.50 crores), approximately Rs 303 lakh (3.03 crores) was prepared for the upgradation of the existing pool to all-weather facility while Rs 31.76 lakh was prepared for the construction of a splash pool near the existing swimming pool.

Also, approximately Rs 12.5 lakh included in construction of a borewell and landscaping of open space around the swimming pool at a cost of Rs 3.76 lakh.
