J&K administration to acquire 272 additional kanals of land for AIIMS Awantipora

Construction of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is in full swing and now the Jammu and Kashmir’s administration is set to acquire an additional land of 272 Kanal (34 acres) for its construction.

The total projected cost for the project is Rs 1828 crore and total estimated time for the project to complete is in year 2025.

As per the revenue department of J&K the land is being acquired for public purposes purposes i.e. establishment of AIIMS.

As per the notification it states that under the provisions of section 19(1) of The Right to fair compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition and Resettlement Act, 2013, 272 Kanal (34 acre) of land is needed in Awantipora tehsil Awantipora, district Pulwama fir public purpose i.e. establishment of AIIMS, reported Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Notification further revealed that land statement and plan can be inspected from the office of collector land acquisition (ADC), Awantipora and tehsildar concerned. The government had last year started proceedings for acquiring the land by calling upon objections, if any, from interested persons’/land owners.

The institute to be constructed is part of the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) which was announced on 7 November 2015.
