J&K among front runners in NITI Aayog Sustainable Development Goal index

Jammu and Kashmir has performed well and much better than many other states and UTs in NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) India Index 2020-21.

Jammu and Kashmir got highlighted among front runners in Niti Aayog’s index for SDG. The SDGs constituted through an unprecedented consultative process have 17 sub-goals and 169 related targets to be achieved by 2030 and the Index for SDGs evaluates progress of States and Union Territories on social, economic and environmental parameters. As per reports, Jammu and Kashmir achieved the Goal 7 and 12 in the list of 16 objectives. Jammu and Kashmir even left behind states like Maharashtra, West Bengal and many others.

Jammu and Kashmir has performed extremely well in almost all the sectors. The performance in achieving the targets is about ensuring quality education and enrollment ratio in elementary education, general equality/women in managerial positions and industry, innovation and infrastructure, as per the Niti Aayog report.

Of the 15 goals applicable to the newly created Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been categorized as Front Runner in 8 goals, performer in 3 goals and Achiever in one goal.

Health Sector performance has been improved during April 2019-March 2020 period. Also the ratio of gap of male and female has improved since last year. Crime against women has come down since last year. Various other parameters have been improved.

According to the data, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh  have also graduated to the “category of front-runners.”
