No person who is entering Jammu by special trains from New Delhi is being allowed to skip the necessary administrative quarantine till his or her report for Covid-19 test is negative. However paid quarantine facility has been introduced for the ones who can afford it.
Railways Department had started 15 special trains from New Delhi to different areas of the country including one to Jammu on daily basis since May 14. The district administration has established at least 48 facilities where residents of Jammu district are being quarantined.
Those from other areas are being sent to their respective districts soon after their samples for Covid-19 are collected at the Jammu railway station as there is no enough space to accommodate so many people. Special trains from other corners of the country were also run to pull out stranded students and others.
The Delhi-Jammu (Rajdhani Express) started plying on May 14 in which more than 1000 people arrive on daily basis.
Deputy Commissioner of Jammu Sushma Chauhan said that no person will be allowed to leave the railway station without a Covid-19 test and thereafter he or she would be put in an administrative quarantine till he reports negative.
“Food and water is being provided for all meals to those who have been quarantined at different centers” said a senior government official.
He said that the facility of paid quarantine has also been introduced for those who do not want to stay at the government facilities. The rest for the rooms at these hotels range from Rs 1500 per day to Rs 3500 a day. “This facility was introduced after some people complained that they want to get better facilities Being in such a situation, it is not possible for any government to provide all facilities due to which we introduced paid quarantine at some select hotels in Jammu” the official said.
The hotels that have been chosen for paid quarantine include Red Rose at Bus Stand Jammu and Lemon Tree Hotel near Railway Station and Fortune Inn Riviera among others.
