Jammu and Kashmir government may impose a cap on the number of pilgrims coming to Vaishno Devi shrine after a large number of travelers at Katra were found to be positive.

Government had earlier imposed a cap on the number after cases of pandemic were rising in J&K. However later restrictions were lifted and a large number of people started to visit Vaishno Devi shrine everyday.

However at least 89 pilgrims were found to be positive when tested at Katra, the base camp town for Vaishno Devi shrine. The pilgrims were immediately taken to the holding area by Reasi administration.

Ramesh Kumar who is the CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said that those testing positive will be treated as per the norms set by the government.

Sources informed that the administration may soon bring in new norms where a cap on number of pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi shrine will be decided.
