On the occasion of Republic Day 2022, Union government on Tuesday announced 939 service medals which includes 189 gallantry.
In a total of 939 awards announced, 189 personnel will receive police medal for gallantry, 88 will get President’s police medal for distinguished service and 662 personnel will receive police medal for meritorious service.
Among the majority189 gallantry awards, 134 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in the Jammu and Kashmir region, 47 personnel in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas and 1 personnel for gallant actionin the north-east region, reportedly.
In a major feat for J&K police, highest number of bravery medals is being bagged by Jammu and Kashmir police. Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 115 are from J&K Police, 30 are from CRPF, three from ITBP, two from BSF, 3 from Sashastra Seema Bal, 10 are from Chhattisgarh Police, 9 from Odisha Police, and 7 from Maharashtra Police, and the remaining from the other States & UTs.
