The Jammu and Kashmir State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) in collaboration with Real Sports India (also known as Sportive), Paras Hospital and other organisations organised “Dal Lake Half Marathon 2 km Run” for creating awareness on Organ Donation at Dal Lake Srinagar on Sunday morning.
More than 320 participants from all over the India took part in the Half Marathon.
The 2 km run was flagged off by Dr MS Wani, Head, Kidney Transplant Unit, SKIMS Srinagar and Dr Sabia Rashid Head, Department of Ophthalmology GMC Srinagar.
Dr MS Wani said that many people die due to the non-availability of organs in India every year, so it is important to sensitize the community for organ donation.
The participants emphasised the need for carrying the message of organ donation, which saves precious lives, to more and more people.
Ms. Heenu Mushtaq, a kidney recipient also participated in the run and motivated others to pledge for Organ Donation to save precious lives.
Dr Ashna Gupta from Department of Ophthalmology GMC Srinagar secured first position,
Dr Prerna Mahajan from Department of Ophthalmology GMC Srinagar secured second and Ms Tasreefa, a volunteer secured third position in Dal Lake Half Marathon 2KM category among girls.
In boys, Imaaz Shabir (Volunteer) secured first, Parvaiz Ahmad (Volunteer) secured second and
Mr Khalid (Volunteer) secured third position respectively in Dal Lake Half Marathon 2KM category.
The participating institutions for the Organ Donation half marathon run were SKIMS Srinagar, GMC Srinagar and Perfect Vision Eye Specialty Hospital Irfan Ahmed, Transplant Coordinator, SOTTO coordinated the event.
