A delegation comprising members of District Congress Committee led by its President, Rigzin Namgyal, called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), and raised several issues of public importance. Secretary to LG, Ravinder Kumar and Secretary, GAD/PWD, Michael D’Souza, were present in the meeting.
Rigzin apprised the LG of the recent tour conducted by them to the Nubra valley and informed him about various issues raised by the villagers during the visit. He raised the need for the delimitation of the Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary as the people of Nubra Valley are facing issues in carrying out tourism and developmental activities due to the restrictions imposed in wildlife-protected areas. He also raised the issue of the early completion of the Shatse-Taknak bridge to reduce the travel time of the villagers from Charasa to Disket sub-divisional headquarter.
Rigzin also raised several issues raised by the villagers of Nubra sub-division, viz. the need for telecommunication connectivity in Digar village, the need to provide water tap connections to households under Jal Jeevan Mission in Digar and Khungru villages, the need to ensure flood protection measures in Khalsar village, the need for a special medical centre with oxygen therapy room along with other facilities for tourists suffering from acute mountain sickness at Khardong village; the need to provide uninterrupted power supply, the need for Block Development Officer along with proper Block Development Office at Panamik, the need for a new ambulance at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Panamik, the need for a medical sub-centre at Youlkam village, the need to allow tourists to visit Siachen base camp, the need to make the BSNL mobile tower at Taksha village functional, the need to ensure saturation of JJM work in Tegar village, the need to upgrade motorable road from Kubet to Charasa-Burma, the need to restore main irrigational canal at Charasa village at the earliest; the need for a separate Government Degree College for Turtuk, the need to upgrade facilities at PHC Turtuk, the need to complete the construction of the hydel project ay Bogdang village and the motorable bridge for Udmaru amd Hundri, the delineation of boundaries for army and civilian settlements at Partapur, the need to construct road on the Largyab-Pachathang-Tia road; the need to complete the Udmaru-Hundri and Lakjung-Disket bridges at the earliest, etc.
The LG informed the delegates of various measures being taken by the UT Administration for the rationalisation of the boundaries of the Karakoram/Changthang Wildlife Sanctuaries, the construction of bridges and roads in Ladakh for the ease and convenience of the public, the continuous effort being made to achieve the saturation of providing FHTCs under JJM across Ladakh and the issue taken up with the Union Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy to provide uninterrupted power supply to the citizens of Ladakh. He instructed Shri Michael D’Souza to examine the feasibility of the Largyab-Tia Road. He asked the delegates to meet CEC Leh regarding the Block Development Office at Panamik.
