JKBOSE prepares detailed criteria to grant marks for cancelled exams

J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has set a criteria for granting marks to cancelled papers and results for class 10th and 12th are going to be declared very soon.

Candidates of class 11 are going to have mass promotion to the next higher class.

As per reports, a roadmap has been suggested to award marks on proportionate basis in the remaining subjects of Class 10th and 12th. The examinations for class 10th and 12th of JKBOSE were not conducted because of ongoing Covid-19.

The criteria which shall be adapted for preparing results of Class 10th and 12th Annual Regular, Bi-annual/Annual Private Exams 2020-21.

Annual Regular Examination 2020-21 of Class 10th in respect of the Summer Zone of Jammu Division was started from April 3, 2021 and only two papers (English and Social Science) were conducted. But due to the rise in Covid-19 cases the government postponed the remaining exams but later as per orders it got cancelled.  

As well as Annual Examination 2020-21 of Class 12th in respect of Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division got started on April 1 and a few papers in different streams were conducted. But due to sudden rise in Covid-19 cases pending exams could not be conducted and later on got cancelled.

10th and 12th Class Bi-annual/Annual Private Exams 2020-21 of Kashmir Division, Ladakh and Winter Zone of Jammu Division could also not be conducted, which were due to be held in March-April 2021.

Now as per reports, JKBOSE has set up the system to be used for awarding marks and preparing the results.

Criteria which shall be considered as per reports is that for class 10th, average will be calculated for the marks obtained by candidates in English and Social Science exams which were conducted including the Internal Assessment.

Then on the basis of average percentage of marks obtained, marks shall be allotted in the language paper (Hindi/Urdu). Then, average of the marks in best of the two papers, out of the three subjects which are English, SST, Hindi/Urdu shall be given in Science and then average of marks in best of two papers out of four subjects shall be allotted in Mathematics.

For Class 12th, candidates who have appeared in two papers, the average of the marks obtained in these two subjects shall be given in the third subject and then average of the marks in best two subjects out of the three shall be allotted to the fourth subject. Finally average marks of the best two subjects out of the four, shall be given  to the 5th subject.

Candidates who have appeared in three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in best two subjects shall be given to the fourth subject and then average of the marks in the best of two subjects out of the four shall be allotted to the 5th subject.


The JKBOSE has also prepared criteria for the result of the Class 10th and 12th Bi-annual/Annual Private Examination 2020-21 in respect of Kashmir Division, Ladakh and winter Zone areas of Jammu Division.

The candidates who got passed in four subjects in the previous examinations, shall be awarded marks in the 5th subject on the basis of average of highest marks scored in any two out of the four subjects.

 Whereas candidates who passed in three subjects, the marks in 4th subject shall be given on the basis of average of the highest marks scored in any two subjects out of the three and marks in 5th subject will be given on the basis of average of the highest marks scored in any of the two subjects out of the four. Same procedure shall be followed in case of candidates having already passed two subjects.

Under, Fresh/Additional Subject Cases/ Additional Subject Cases/Improvement cases/ Failure and Re-appear (having passed only one subject) category will have to appear in exams in August 2021, as per reports.

The candidates, who think the result is not satisfactory will be given a chance to appear in the examination whenever they will be conducted.
